Course Syllabus

In MyITLab: You should do the Excel chapters IN ORDER. MyITLab tends to randomize them in the "To Do" but you should do them in sequence by Chapter. Same with Word and PowerPoint but you can do those either before or after Excel (or even in the middle if you wish).

Course Requirements and Policies

Using MYITLAB 2016

There are two components in MYITLAB 2016: hands on exercises from the textbook and projects

  • Training teaches you how to use the software. There are different ways to use the training in MyITLab as various online resources allow you to solve a problem in a way that suits your learning style. You can use the e-book to review how to do particular tasks and complete hands-on exercises from the e-text for practice on your own. There are also videos, simulations, and PowerPoint slides in MyITLab under “COURSE MATERIALS”. None of the training activities are graded.
  • Projects are homework (assignments) and assessments (exams) that willbe graded. You will download a file, work on it, then upload the file for grading. Assignments can be done at any time prior to the due date but exams must be taken at the assigned time in class.

-  You are able to do the homework assignments an unlimited number of times and I will record the highest grade you receive. - Assessments only allow ONE attempt. You take these on your own and at your own pace, they do not need to be proctored. However, please follow the honesty guidelines below.

Not learning this material will place you behind your peers in other classes. Do your own assessments!!!

Please make sure you complete the course within the amount of time allowed by Extended Education!!!

MIS 220 TEXTBOOK OPTIONS

Important information!!!!

Each student must prepare his or her own work. Please look at ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS and FILES available on Canvas as they include important information on working homework.

DO NOT USE MYITLAB 2016 FILES THAT ORIGINATE WITH ANOTHER STUDENT!!! DON’T EVEN HAVE THEM ON YOUR COMPUTER. MYITLAB 2016 HAS METHODS OF DETECTING FILES NON ORIGINAL WORK IN YOUR FILES. DO NOT SHARE YOUR MYITLAB 2016 FILE WITH OTHER STUDENTS EVER!!!! YOUR GRADE AND AN ACADEMIC DISHONESTY CHARGE CAN BE APPLIED RETROACTIVELY QUARTERS AFTER YOU FINISH MIS 220 IF YOU GIVE THESE FILES TO A SUBSEQUENT STUDENT. SINCE YOU NEVER KNOW HOW SOMEONE MAY USE YOUR FILES, PROTECT THEM!!!!

Students involved in copying files or providing copied files for homework and assessments will receive a failing grade for the course and the information will be forwarded to the appropriate channels as outlined in the WWU catalogue under “Students Rights and Responsibilities”. The software will detect copying and pasting from other files. The provider and the user will both be identified and failed in the class. If the provider is from a previous quarter, their grade will be changed retroactively to a failure and they will be reported. PROTECT YOUR FILES AND DO NOT SHARE THEM WITH ANYONE!!!!!

Grading

The grading for this class is S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory); in order to pass the class, students must receive an overall score of 80% on the combined weight below. Also, you must demonstrate proficiency by completing homework in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. You will have unlimited chances to complete each Homework. The BEST Homework score on each Homework is the only one that is counted.

 Grading Structure for Excel:

 Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Homework

 30%

 Excel Assessments (10% each)

 70%

Also, you must complete the Word and PowerPoint homework to 70% and have an overall average of 80% to pass the class!!!!!

This is an example of how you might pace your quarter, you may go at your own pace. You may do the Word and PowerPoint anytime through the course. I would do the Excel Homework and Assessments in order by chapter. These will take a few weeks to do well, so don’t wait until the last minute to complete them.
